Health and Fitness Friday!

For the month of August (and now September) I signed up for ClassPass. For those of you that don't know, I like to try new fitness routines as often as possible. You have to keep things interesting.

Here's how ClassPass works. You sign-up and pay $99 per month. You can attend up to 10 classes in 30 days, but now more than 3 of the same class. Since I typically buy, a 10 pack of Barry's Bootcamp classes for $320 and a 5 pack of FlyWheel classes for $165, this is a great deal since these classes are offered through ClassPass. Expensive otherwise, I know!

In addition to attending my normal classes, I have been able to try a few new ones a long the way.

First on the list was Warrior Fitness Bootcamp. The workout is a drill instructor led class that consists of various workouts and an obstacle course. It. Is. Intense. No one told me that I would be running 20+ flights of stairs by the end. I highly recommend it though. Even though the instructors can be a bit scary, they are nice, but don't take it easy on you just because it's your first time.

I have been twice now and plan on returning in the coming weeks. Yes, I did complete the obstacle course (minus the rope, I have NEVER been able to climb one...not even in gym class). I was surprisingly good at the monkey bars though. Go figure.

I highly recommend trying ClassPass if it's offered in your city. I will warn you though, their interface needs a serious makeover, but their customer service team is very nice.

I will be reviewing the other classes I have tried in the coming weeks.

What do you do to continuously challenge yourself?

Have a great weekend!

Weekend Recap: Back to Normal!

Happy Monday!  After being back in KC for a while, it was nice finally getting back to our normal routine this weekend.  Which I guess didn't mean much since the weather was so crappy.  This was my commute on Friday.

I have two photos to show for our weekend.  My phone is full of photos and won't let me take anymore...I know, ridiculous.  I'm cleaning it out today, don't worry.

It was F-R-E-E-Z-I-N-G on Friday!  So we stayed in (shocker!) and I made a healthy homemade dinner.

Did I mention I've been trying to eat paleo?  Key word, trying.  I was REALLY GOOD, before the holidays.  Then the holidays happened and it all went down the gutter.  Granted, I was much better than normal sand made smarter choices, but overall, it was a fail.  I'm officially back on track.  More to come on what paleo means and why I decided to try it.

Saturday consisted of quite a few errands after trying out the new Tribeca FlyWheel.  Great location, nice studio, but why the hell do these places put in limited bathrooms?!  I don't get it!  I had to wait in line to change from my warm pants to biking shorts.  Doesn't matter though, I'll continue to go back.  :)

Back to the grind...

Have a great week!

Health and Fitness Friday!

Happy Friday!

Who drinks soda (or pop, depending on where you're from)?  Very rarely do I crave carbonated beverages; especially since I discovered that it's linked to my headaches.  Even seltzer gives me a headache.  The only time I must have a Diet Coke is at the move theater.  Who doesn't want one with popcorn?!

I drinks lots and lots of water at the office.  In fact, I probably drink more water during the week than the weekend.

Which is why I kind of want to order this water bottle.

This smart bottle actually tracks how much water you should consume versus what you actually do consume.  One trick that I do to drink more water is drink it with fresh lemon juice.

More recently, I just purchased a plastic bottle of lemon juice so there's no prepping involved.  Oh, and I also MUST drink water with ice.

Throw some lemon in your water, it's prove to curb your appetite.

Have a great weekend!

Health and Fitness Friday!

There are two ingredients that I have tried to introduce in our diet more and more: lentils and quinoa.  There are health benefits to both!  The only problem, they aren't that good on their own.

I have found that both are great though when mixed with other ingredients and their taste becomes slightly camouflaged.

What are the health benefits of each?

Lentils:
Lowers Cholesterol
Heart Health
Digestive Health
Stabalized Blood Sugar
Good Protein
Increases Energy
Weight Loss
(Health Benefits provided by Mind Body Green.com)

Quinoa (The Super Grain):
Protein Rich
Contains Iron
Contains Lysine
Rich in Magnesium
High in Raboflavin (B2)
High in Manganese
(Health Benefits provided by Forbes.com)

For some reason I found both of these items intimidating to cook with on a regular basis.  But now having used them in a number of dishes, I am confident they will continue to be a staple in our diet.

Do you eat these two items in your diet?

Health & Fitness Friday

Happy Friday!!  Nothing too exciting planned this weekend.  This week has been long and exhausting.  Our office is about to make a move next week, so it seems busier than ever.

In addition to getting to some work this weekend I didn't have to get to, I must transition our fall/winter clothes out; I'm sick of all our scarves and coats on the coat rack.  OK, maybe they are 90% mine, but whatever.  And by out I mean under the bed.  :)

There has been a couple of THOSE days this week (you know which ones I'm talking about, the ones where everything seems to go wrong), so needless to say I'm ready for the weekend.

This is a friendly, healthy, reminder to learn from your mistakes or things that don't go your way and move on.  Easier said than done, I know, but always good to be reminded.

Have a great weekend!  Yet another Barry's class on Saturday; I'm addicted.  But I think I'll pass on this anti-gravity course until a later date.  As much as I loved hanging upside down, I can only take so much.  :)
